The number of survey participants in 2026 rose to 1,851 vs 1,313 in 2025, giving us one of the most comprehensive pictures yet of what it means to pursue a legal career in 2026.

2026 key findings

• 51% disagree that everyone has the same opportunities to succeed in the legal profession.
• 44% say they felt out of place, different or inadequate.
• 43% have reconsidered pursuing a legal career due to financial barriers.

The report closes with actionable recommendations for firms, universities, and students.

Because until every aspiring lawyer, regardless of background, is competing on a genuinely level playing field, the work isn't done.
